Summer Holiday Events in Gloucestershire
The summer holidays are upon us but how can we keep our little darlings entertained? Between endless renditions of ‘I’m Hungry’ and the thousandth trip to the park, find out exactly what is going on in Gloucestershire throughout August 2019 so that you can find an event you will all enjoy!
Summer Jam Festival
Head to the Brewery Quarter on Friday 2nd August - Sunday 4th in Cheltenham to experience a 3 day festival full of family fun. With a focus on local artists and gorgeous local food providers, this really is a weekend to celebrate Gloucestershire. There will also be an arts and craft market, street art and plenty for the family to do and see. The event is free so you can save your pennies for the day. thebreweryquarter.co.uk
Visit the moon
You don’t actually have to get in a rocket ship to experience the moon this summer in Gloucester. Head for Gloucestershire museum any time from Saturday 29 June to Saturday 21 September 2019 and take one giant step for mankind (or at least a child’s step).
The Moon Exhibition has moon fancy dress, an interactive adventure, story time as well as the opportunity to hold real life moon rock and get crafty with lunar art sessions. Admission to the Museum of Gloucester is free but some of the workshops cost between £1 - £5. Find out more facebook.com/MuseumofGloucester
Dean Heritage Centre
A little closer to my own home in the Forest of Dean, the Dean Heritage Centre is a treasure trove of history and nature that both children and adults will love. The centre is open all summer with a Victorian classroom, real local mine and a Gruffalo trail to explore. There are also however events on including Pirates of Penzance on Sunday 4th August which will showcase a live opera in it’s beautiful natural grounds. It is recommended you book in advance and check prices. https://www.deanheritagecentre.com/whats-on/pirates-of-penzance
Another local and popular venue with my own children is Go Ape which is a treetop adventure for all ages (well those over a metre high) based at Beechenhurst, Forest of Dean. Children and adults can literally whizz through the trees, balance through a suspended obstacle course and climb high (84 metres) into the canopy.
While you are there, you might as well enjoy the gorgeous cafe, park, climbing wall and many beautiful walks. These include the infamous Sculpture Tail and the Zog Activity trail which is the perfect fun filled walk for little legs.
Capture This Moment
OK, I am cheating here, you might not think booking a photography shoot is an activity day but that’s because you haven’t booked one with me before! I specialise in capturing special family moments, not staged studio images. For the month of August I have a unique offer for anyone who books a mini-session. Each booking will come with a complimentary framed image worth £150 which is actually the cost of the session alone. When the holidays are over, so is this offer so book today and secure your place.
The summer goes by so quickly and our children will never be this age again. Come to the Forest of Dean for a family shoot filled with fun, laughter and resulting in beautiful natural photographs so that your memories are captured forever!
