The Summer Holidays Are a Perfect Time for a Family Photoshoot
I have been capturing family moments for as long as I have been a mother myself and the summer holidays are a brilliant time to organise a photoshoot. To celebrate I have a special offer for those who book a Family Mini Session for the summer holidays 2019 but before I share this, I want to help you prepare. I have 3 top tips for your summer holidays photoshoot so you can get the very best out of your day.
Prep the kids
Make sure the children know what's coming so they don't feel surprised by someone with a big camera popping up. Get them excited about the occasion and reinforce that it's a great opportunity to capture treasured family memories. Children can be shy in front of new people which is why it's important to look for a photographer who has a track record good feedback from families. Often children love the idea of being the centre of attention so you can use this to create a buzz about the day and make them feel like film stars!
Hungry kids get hangry (come to think of it so do adults). Be prepared with snacks to keep them fuelled throughout the session. Be careful though that the snacks you melt won't melt or stain. Just in case it's not a bad idea to bring spare clothes.
On a similar note to food, sleep impacts on children's mood too. When arranging a session with a photographer be mindful of the time of day. You know your kids better than anyone else so you know how to time it avoiding nap time and tantrum time (although lets face it, that could be anytime or the day)!
Make a day of it
Capturing memories should mean exactly that. The family photoshoot should be more than just a day where you and your children pose for pictures, it should be a day you remember, a day of fun, laughter and joy.
As a photographer, I know the images of children genuinely having fun are so much more magical. Capturing movements, laughter lines and everyone's unique personality are so much more powerful than a staged studio shoot. This is why I love going with families and accompanying them on a day out. It could be a walk, a beach trip, the park or a farm. The venue itself matters less than the memories you are going to create.
Why I love the summer holidays
The great thing about the summer holidays is the sense of time and space. Instead of rushing around, trying to fit a shoot into everything else that has to be done in a weekend, it feels more relaxed and this impacts on the final images.
The time allows us to be more adventurous with the photos and the long days are great for the light.
Every summer holiday is unique, our children grow so fast and next summer they will be a year older. Capturing the magic of the holidays is a beautiful experience.
It's because I love these summer family shoots so much that I am putting out this exclusive offer to anyone who books their shoot for the holiday period.
Anyone who signs up for a £150 family mini session in the summer of 2019 get’s a free framed 10 x 8 image worth £150 (and yes, that is the same price as the session itself)!
